MEMBERS OF THE BOARD
Thomas F. Gibson In January of 2004, Tom became Chairman of the Middlesex Retirement Board, after serving as its legal counsel for twenty years. Tom continues to maintain a law practice in Cambridge, specializing in public employee retirement law. Since 1997, Tom has served as the appointed member of the Belmont Retirement Board. Tom is a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School. He is a member of the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys, the Massachusetts Association of Public Pension Attorneys (Past President,) the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Foundation (Fellow and Life Member,) the Middlesex County Bar Association, and the Cambridge-Arlington-Belmont Bar Association (Past President.)
Brian P. Curtin Brian has been the elected Treasurer/Collector of the Town of Burlington, serving continuously since 1977. In 1980, Brian was first elected to the Middlesex Retirement Board by his fellow Treasurers on the Middlesex Retirement Advisory Council. Brian is a graduate of Northeastern University and is Past President of the Massachusetts Association of Collectors and Treasurers.
James M. Gookin Jim Gookin, a retired Captain of the City of Lowell Police Department who actively served for 30 years, has been the appointed member of the Middlesex Retirement Board since 1999. Jim is a former Selectman of the Town of Dracut and a member of the Greater Lowell Regional Transportation Authority. Jim was the former president of the Lowell local International Brotherhood of Police Officers and a member of the Massachusetts Police Association. He is also a lifetime member at the Disabled American Veterans Post, Dracut American Legion, and the Elks Lodge.
John Brown John Brown is a Lieutenant in the Wilmington Fire Department where he has worked since 1968. He was the President of IAFF Local 1370 for 20 years, served on the Massachusetts Fire Training Council for 12 years and in 1999 he was first elected Executive Board of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts and is the Information Officer for the PFFM. John coordinates the PFFM Member Assistance Program, is a member of the Metro-Boston Criticial Incident Stress Team and is a faculty member of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. In his spare time, John serves as a Section Chief with the National Ski Patrol, and is the State´s Firefighter Liaison for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. John was elected to the Middlesex Retirement Board on January 30, 2007.
Edgar W. McLean, Jr. Ed McLean is in his 20th year as Firefighter/EMT with the Burlington Fire Department. He is the President of IAFF Local 2313 serving as a member of the Executive Board since 1992. Ed is active with the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts Pension and Health Insurance committee. He is also an awarded member of the EMS Committee for his work in developing the Heart Safe Community program which has been instituted across the state and being adopted throughout the Country. Ed serves on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services Council. Ed was elected to the Middlesex Retirement Board on December 13th, 2007.
